Ayur Veda
Classified the diseases according to their origin, namely from
within or Endogenous, from without or exogenous and those which
arise from the mind.
I
Nija (Endogenous)
-Genetic
-Constitutional
-Vitiation of srota
-enzymatic defects
-motility of intestines
-suppression of natural urges
-dietetic
-toxins (immune-complexes)
-Age
-Sex
-Idiopathic
Any one of
the mention causative factor can unbalance the other three. For
Example if our minds are weak preventing us to make wise decisions
we are more prone to be affected by clymatological changes, or
buy not paying due attention to those changes can either affect
the state of mind and subsequently weaken the bodily tissues.
In other words when the doshas are increased or decrease by a
number of different factors these creates a vitiated state which
spreads from one tissue (dhatu) to the other tissues.
Transgression
against wisdom (prajnaparadha)
We all have
different temptations to enjoy the world and we are aware of it
we try to avoid falling in over-indulgence but sometimes we are
overwhelmed and loosing the common sense. Such transgression is
causing us to Misused, underused, or abuses the
five senses and as a result we spoil the intelligence of the body.
It is unfortunate to see how the human population is divided in
two. Those which are under-nourish and (drying out)
and those which are over-nourished (wet). Both
situations has an influence
On Agni (digestive capacity) In the case of overeating Ama (Toxins)
are generated and in the conditions when under-eating is present
Vata increases.
Categories
of Diseases
1. Arising
out of one's self or adhyatmika
2.
Arising out of external objects or Adhibhautika
3. Arising out of providential causes or Adhidaivika
1. The first
group or Adhyatmika consist of three varieties:
a) Hereditary,
these diseases occur as a result of the vitiation of Sukra dhatu
( Sperm and ovum of the parents)
this variety is again divided in two categories: i) arising from
the father ii) arising from the mother.
b) Congenital,
these types of diseases occur as a result of improper diet and
regimen of the mother during pregnancy.
c) Lyfe
Style ,this type of diseases occurs as a result of wrong
diet and regimen of the individual.
2. This type
of diseases or Adhibautika is originated by external aggression.
These can be classified in two types,
a) Cause by
wild animals,bacterias,germs
b) Cause by weapons,accidents
3. This type
of diseases or Adhidaivika are divided into three categories:
a) Seasonal
b) diseases
caused by anger of Devas they can be classified
in two categories:
i) Contagious
ii) Caused
by evil tantric rites.
c) Diseases
arising from Hunger, thirst, old age, sleep, ego,
When the humors
go on increasing by different factors ( wrong diet, misuse of
the senses, climatological changes, emotional upsets etc. this
factors causes weakening of Agni (digestive power), which in turn
produce ama ( undigested food mass )
They are six stages, the first two refer the increase of the humors
in their own Stanas or sites, they are: Accumulation, Aggravation,
Overflow,Relocation, Manifestation, and diversification.
Accumulation:
The doshas begin to increase in their own sites the causes are
mention before.
Vata: accumulates
in the colon causing distention, gas, constipation, insomnia,
and fatigue, need of warmth and fear or insecurity.
Pita
: Accumulates in the small intestine producing burning sensations
like hyperacidity, bitter taste in the mouth, desire for cold
things irritability and anger the stools, urine and skin become
yellow, mild fever.
Kapha:
Accumulates in the stomach resulting in laziness, heaviness, indigestion
with feelings of nausea, pallor, desire for light and warm food.
Aggravation.
The doshas continue to increase in their own seats by increasing
the symptoms in the previous stage at this stage the symptoms
may be felt somewhere else.
Overflow:
The symptoms begin to overflow into the rest of the body, spreading
out of the Digestive track, they enter into the blood. The nature
and location of these complications depends upon the direction
the humors move. They present the following symptoms:
Vata:
Lower back pain, spasm, headache, dry cough, painful bowel movements
with constipation, dry skin, stiffness of the joints.
Pitta:
Skin diseases, gingivitis, headache, high fever, and diarrhea
with burning sensation. Conjunctivitis, bilious vomiting
Kapha:
causes cough, asthma, low-grade fever, vomiting, swelling of the
joints, and water retention, mucus in the stools may be present.
Relocation:
The symptoms tend to become more fixed, whereas in the overflow
state they tend to move around, at this stage we can say that
the disease begin to manifest. Usually the seats, which are weak
or vulnerable, are the ones that suffer the most.
Cont. stages of diseases
Manifestation: At this stage we can identify the disease as Arthritis,
asthma or whatever it may be.
Diversification:
Finally the disease can be recognize according to their attributes
of the predominant dosha.
Ayur Veda
recognize three pathways of disease, these are the outer, inner,
and central
The inner
route is the digestive tract, (hollow organs)
The outer route is the plasma and blood, (circulatory
system)
The central
routes are the deeper tissues of muscle, fat, bone, bone
marrow and reproductive tissue.
The easiest
way to treat a disease is when is located on the inner path, because
it can be spelled from either the upward direction or from below.
Second in
difficulty is the central path, they are more difficult because
they have already entered into the tissues. Toxic blood conditions
like skin diseases are a good example.
And finally the diseases on the central path are the more difficult
because the most delicate organs are involved such as the head,
heart, joint or bladder. Arthritis and Cancer come from this route.
Why
the disease moves deeper into the tissues?
The answer
is simple but very significant, excessive exercise, too much sharp
food, wrong life-style and any Vata aggravating factors will cause.
So we see that the disease process is the same in all forms of
diseases and any one of the humors can originate it.
We can use
the organs of cognition in three possible ways, misuse, overuse,
or underused.
Hearing:
It is misused by listening to sounds which are terrifying or very
harsh, it is underused by avoiding to hear any thing, and it is
overuse by listening to overly loud music.
Touch:
It is underused by not allowing oneself to any tactile stimuli
or never being expose to massage, it is misuse by letting the
body being in touch with unclean things. Or is overuse by being
expose oneself excesibily to heat and could, or to engage in massage
too often.
Sight:
It is misuse to stare at horrible sights frecuently. It is underused
by not exercising the eyes at all or to remain in
darkness for a long time. And staring at overly bright objects
for long time overuses it.
Taste:
It is misuse by not following the rules of dietetics' It is underused
by prolong fast or very often; and it is overuse by overeating.
Smell:
It is underused by not smelling anything at all; it is overuse
by smelling sharp, or causting odors; and it is misused by smelling
toxic, poisonous, decayed or putrid odors.
